Thank you for checking out our blog. My name is Paul, my partner is Ron and soon we'll have a little puppy by the name of Boston.
Over the past 10+ years we've very much enjoyed the inner city living of vibrant New Farm. During this time we had the opportunity to knock down a post war home in Clay Street and build our dream home. Building on a small inner city lot came with it's challenges but the end result was very rewarding and provided us with lots of great memories. Ron being an architect is always on the look out for the next challenge.
Recently the opportunity came up to purchase what we believe to be the only Merchant Builder's house in Brisbane - they were very popular in Melbourne in the 70's and 80's and we've included a tab in the blog so you can read more about this builder. We bought the house and have made the tree change to the very leafy western suburb of Kenmore.
The house has great bones - flat roof, exposed timber beams, timber windows and the layout of the house is based on 1.2m modules creating a structured and reassuring feeling. Over the next 6-12 months we'll be restoring the house, being sympathetic to the original design intent and doing a fairly major makeover of the landscaping including the addition of an inground pool and timber decking.
In our blog we'd like to share our renovating experience with you along with some updates on the puppy and other interesting stories along the way.
This is our first ever blog so we really encourage your feedback and well be very happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks again for checking out our blog!
Hi Paul, your blog is very interesting to me as I have also recently purchased a 1979 Merchant Builder's house in Ferny Creek, Melbourne. It is a split level 'studio' in the hills of the Dandenong Ranges. I have just noticed that your last blog was in 2014, I would like to see the end result, are you planning on putting up pictures of the finished works?
ReplyDeleteWould also love to see the result as we believe we've purchased an MB home too!
